Abstract
The Donetsk Basin is the largest coal-mining region of Ukraine. Coal mines of the Donbass are among the most dangerous in the world in terms of gas factor. Most mines of the basin operate within tectonic blocks with widespread development of zones of low-amplitude tectonic disturbance of shear genesis. Special attention should be paid to the analysis of local structural-tectonic regimes that affect the distribution of methane and the assessment of its resources. The permeability of the coal-rock massif and variations in the spatial distribution of methane deposits are due to the modern distribution of tectonic stress fields and, first of all, the localization of areas of local extension-compression. Our studies have established that the so-called "sweet areas" for methane production spatially gravitate toward domains with relatively high permeability, which develop within the sectors of near-shear extension (dilatational decompaction) in the contour of shear zones.
