In extraction of coal seams under the built-up territories at shallow depths estimated deformations greatly exceed permissible values. One of the efficient measures for protection of surface objects against undermining effect is mining protection measure - partial coal extrac tion along the area by room mining with establishing pillars among the rooms. The active technique was developed for depths more than 150 m. We propose method to determine parameters of partial extraction for depths less than 150 m which is tested successfully in extraction of flatlying seams at shallow depths.
