      <abstract>
        <p>The paper presents a method for rating-based assessment of the stability of un derground mine workings developed in 2025 at the Mining Institute of NUST MISIS for the conditions of mining ore and non-ore deposits. The method is based on the determination of an integral stability index Rm, which accounts for the combined influence of natural and anthropogenic (mining-engineering) factors, and allows underground workings to be classified into five stability cat egories (I–V). The structure of the basic and final stability indices, a system of weighting coefficients, and a set of parameters characterizing the physical and mechanical properties of rocks, rock mass quality and jointing, excavation geometry, rock pressure, and excavation method are described. The methodology includes calculation of the stand-up time of unsupported workings, prediction of contour displacements and the height of a potential roof fall arch, as well as a justified selection of support types and parameters considering the degree of an thropogenic impact. In addition, an approach for estimating the probability of underground working failure based on statistical models and conditional risk probability is proposed. The practical applicability of the method is confirmed by pilot industrial testing at a number of mining enterprises, which makes it pos sible to recommend the proposed approach for comprehensive stability assess ment, risk management, and optimization of ground support for underground mine workings under various geological and mining conditions.</p>
